Warming up your articulates will help you sound more clear with your speech. Here is a list of tongue twisters I like to do to warm up.

Going over these for 5 minutes before you start recording will result in you sounding better and having an easier time speaking for an extensive amount of time.

Note that I’m not a professional vocal coach by any means just sharing what I’ve learned and what I usually do.

1. My Go To Tongue Twisters

These are the ones that are worth memorizing and going through them every now and then especially if English is not your first language:

  • Betty Botter bought some butter she said the butter’s bitter if I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter.
  • Thirty-three thirsty thieves thought they’d thrash through thick thistle.
  • Red lorry, yellow lorry (repeat it a couple of times)
  • Unique New York, unique New York you know you need unique New York. (repeat them a couple of times)
  • Red leather yellow leather.

2. Other Tongue Twisters

Try to over articulate these:

  • All I want is a proper cup of coffee made in a proper copper coffee pot! (repeat it a couple of times)
  • Peter Piper picked a pack of pickle peppers.  (repeat it a couple of times)

This one to wake up your focus (be careful what you say 😜):

  • I’m not a pheasant plucker I’m a pheasant plucker’s son and I’m only plucking pheasants when the pheasant plucker comes. (repeat it a couple of times)

These are good for the “TH” sound combined with the “T” and “D” (especially for non-native speakers):

  • The thoughtful theatre thrived thanks to Thursday’s thrilling theme.
  • Throw three thick threads through the thin tight threshold.
  • They’d rather dance than dash through the deadly thundering downpour.
  • That tough detective threaded through tight thickets at dawn to do the deed needed to be done.

3. Practice on your text like this

If you have your text use that or if you do it in a free speech style grab a newspaper article or a page from a book and follow these two easy steps:

  1. Put your index finger in your mount (horizontally) and bite on it gently with your front teeth.
  2. Start reading and speaking your text without biting your finger stronger. You’ll sound funny but try to pronounce each sound including the consonants as much as you can. Go over a page or so.

Now try speaking your text again and if it’s easier and you sound better, save the website as a bookmark and check out the YouTube channel as well!
